www.356a.com Privacy
Statement
August 31, 2003
I have received many comments from people concerned about privacy, so I have written this statement to answer some of your concerns.
When you submit data to this site, it is kept in a database. In addition to the data you directly input into the data submission forms, the time and date is recorded. No other information is collected or retained. Like any information transmitted over the internet, it is susceptible to interception. The database is only accessible to the public through the pages visible on the site. It is possible for other sites to link to these pages and access the data, but they can access nothing more than what anyone can through the public 356a.com pages. The database itself is in a password protected folder and cannot be accessed or copied by the public. From time to time, database information may be shared with other organizations (presently, the only other organization is the Porsche 356 Registry www.356registry.org ) for the sole purpose of research and increasing the knowledge of these cars. No information will be shared for any commercial purposes.
You do not have to enter your name, city, state, and/or country. If you wish to provide basic information without any indication of who or where you are, just to let the world your know your car exists, that would be helpful. However, I encourage you to leave a name and geographical area simply so others with common interests in Porsche may be able to contact you.
Spam in your email - Because each page containing database information is created on demand for a user, and is not stored as a static page, current methods of crawling the internet for email addresses will not find your email if you choose to submit it. For the same reason, search engines such as "Google" are unable to find this data. I cannot guarantee it will "never" happen, but the basic structure of the site has been unchanged since October 2000, and I have seen no cases of spam generated due to an email address being in the database (I have some unique email addresses for myself in the database for confirming this).
A final comment about privacy - do a search on Google or other search engines for your name. You may be very surprised to see what it turns up. If you have personal web pages, have listed a car for sale, have participated in discussion lists/newsgroups, or raced your car in a local car club event, it is highly likely there is something on you. Compared to the activities I just mentioned, the level of privacy for your data in this website is considerably higher.
Feel free to email me with any privacy concerns.
